It was a remarkable day for US President Donald Trump at the White House as Apple CEO Tim Cook gifted him an American-made glass engraving.
But it is Cook who walked out with a jackpot.
In a glitzy Oval Office moment, Cook on Wednesday presented a one-of-a-kind piece of glass mounted on a 24-karat gold base. The glass has been produced at Corning's facility in Kentucky, and the base is from Utah. The Apple CEO presented him with the gift as a part of a ceremony celebrating Apple's expanding " American Manufacturing Program ."
"This glass comes off the Corning line, engraved for President Trump," Cook said. "It is a unique unit of one," he added.
Cook's present to Trump was polished, but Trump's gift to Apple is much shinier.
Trump from the Oval Office said that the companies that "are building in the United States," like Apple, won't be subject to a forthcoming 100% tariff on imports of semiconductors and chips.
Talking about the gift, Cook informed that it has been designed by a former US Marine Corps. The Corporal who made the gift is now working for Apple. The gift has Cook's signature etched in it.
$100 billion more reasons to smile
Apple, clearly ready to double down on its domestic ambitions, also announced it would add $100 billion to its existing pledge of investing $500 billion in the US over the next four years. As part of this move, Cook said all cover glass for iPhones and Apple Watches will soon be made entirely in the United States.
