Why is Congress threatened by Sulibele's speech?: MP Kota Srinivas Poojary

BJP MP Kota Srinivas Poojary has strongly objected to the police-imposed restrictions on the speech of orator Chakravarthy Sulibele, calling it “a disturbing sign of democratic suppression.” He questioned the rationale behind directing a nationalist thinker on what to say and how to speak, particularly when the nation is not under any emergency situation.

“There is no justification for the district police to dictate speech in a democracy where critique and commentary are integral. Sulibele has always spoken clearly about issues like land, water, environment, forest conservation, and nationalism. Imposing a gag order on him is deeply concerning,” the Rajya Sabha MP said.

He also accused the Congress-led state government and the district administration of infringing upon freedom of speech. “What is it about Sulibele’s words that threatens the Congress so much?” he asked.

Poojary further alleged that the current government is attempting to stifle voices that promote nationalism while protecting those who raised slogans like ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ in the Vidhana Soudha. “It is shocking that the district-in-charge minister defends anti-national elements while opposing the voice of someone who says ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’,” he remarked.

He termed the police advisory to Sulibele as a violation of free speech and urged the authorities to uphold democratic values instead of targeting individuals with nationalist ideologies.
