The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh weather updates signaling turbulent conditions across several parts of northern, central, and eastern India. As thunderstorms, hailstorms, and heavy winds continue to lash many states, the forecast warns of rising temperatures and potential heatwaves in parts of western and northwestern India starting April 15.
Thunderstorms, Hail Alert for UP, Uttarakhand, and MPAccording to IMD, states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh are likely to witness intense thunderstorm activity, accompanied by hail and strong gusty winds. The stormy spell is expected to persist for the next 48 hours, especially affecting rural regions where crop damage risk remains high.
In Jharkhand, hailstorm warnings have been issued for April 15. Eastern and northeastern states including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, and Odisha will also see sustained rainfall with occasional heavy showers and lightning through the next 4–5 days.
Rising Heat in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Delhi From April 15A contrasting picture emerges in northwest India, where Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, and Haryana are set to experience a sharp rise in temperatures. From April 15 onward, a heatwave is expected to grip parts of western Rajasthan and central Gujarat. IMD warns that between April 16 to 18, certain districts may even face severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures soaring 4–6°C above normal.
Cities such as Jodhpur, Ahmedabad, Bikaner, and Jaipur are already reporting dry heat conditions, and this trend is expected to intensify.
Rain Continues in South IndiaMeanwhile, southern states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka will continue to see light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. IMD confirmed heavy rainfall in isolated pockets of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, particularly in hilly regions.
This ongoing spell is likely to persist for the next three to five days, with urban flooding concerns in places like Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai.
Delhi-NCR Forecast: Clearer Skies AheadAs for the Delhi-NCR region, the capital experienced partly cloudy skies on April 12 with light drizzle in some areas. From April 13 to 15, clear skies are expected to return, although daytime temperatures could breach the 40°C mark. Wind speed will remain mild to moderate, offering some relief during peak hours.
IMD has not issued any heatwave alerts for the capital just yet but has advised caution for outdoor activities, especially during noon hours.
